Bill de Blasio, the New York mayor, has said he may order the removal of the landmark statue of Christopher Columbus that has overlooked Manhattan’s Columbus Circle since it was erected as part of the city’s 1892 commemoration of the 400th anniversary of the explorer landing in the Americas.   https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/aug/25/new-york-christopher-columbus-statue-de-blasio?CMP=share_btn_link https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/aug/25/new-york-christopher-columbus-statue-de-blasio?CMP=share_btn_link                                                      Its same difference! The Tulsa City Council voted to establish Native American Day on the second Monday of October.

City councilors unanimously approved the resolution Wednesday, September 20, 2017.

The Greater Tulsa Area Indian Affairs Commission has tried to get the resolution passed several times.

The resolution acknowledges the 30,000 Native American individuals living in Tulsa and their social and military contributions. It also notes the Tulsa area was first inhabited by their ancestors.

As originally introduced, the resolution called for replacing Columbus Day with Native American Day, but Mayor G.T. Bynum crossed out "Renaming Columbus Day as Native American Day" and wrote in "Establishing Native American Day" in its place.

Columbus Day remains a federal holiday. Tulsa city offices will remain open that day.

The resolution will take effect once it's signed by the mayor and published. http://m.newson6.com/story.aspx?story=36426125&catId=112042 http://m.newson6.com/story.aspx?story=36426125&catId=112042
