BERLIN (Reuters) - German rail operator Deutsche Bahn is facing a siege of online criticism over a proposal to name a high-speed train after Holocaust victim Anne Frank, who was deported by train to the Auschwitz concentration camp.
The idea to name the high-speed ICE 4 train after Frank came from proposals made by Deutsche Bahn customers and the German public, which a panel reviewed. Of 19,400 submissions, Anne Frank was one of the most popular names, it said.
"Aware of the historical responsibility we bear, we made a deliberate decision to help keep Anne Frank's memory alive," Bahn said in a statement. Ramallah (Palestinian Territories) (AFP) - Thousands of Palestinians took to the streets of various cities on Thursday to protest on the 100th anniversary of Britain's Balfour Declaration, which helped lead to Israel's creation and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas used the occasion to denounce the declaration, writing in a newspaper opinion piece that "the creation of a homeland for one people resulted in the dispossession and continuing persecution of another".
Several Palestinian leaders have called on Britain to apologise for the 67-word declaration that said it viewed "with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people".

President Donald Trump unleashed a series of tweets the morning after Tuesday’s deadly attack in lower Manhattan, blaming the Electronic Diversity Visa Lottery program for allowing the suspect, 29-year-old Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov, to emigrate legally from Uzbekistan in 2010.

President Donald Trump unleashed a Twitter barrage Wednesday blaming the Electronic Diversity Visa Lottery program for the deadly attack that struck lower Manhattan one day earlier, and demanding immigration reforms based on merit.
He said suspect, 29-year-old Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov, used the program to legally emigrate from Uzbekistan in 2010. Officials have yet to confirm whether that’s the case.
Established in 1990, the lottery provides legal pathways for people from countries with historically low immigration rates to the U.S. Only 50,000 visas are offered annually, and applicants are required to have completed at least a high school education or at least two years of work experience. Visas are distributed among nationals from six different regions.
Instead of a lottery, which is arbitrary in nature, Trump repeatedly called for merit-based systems instead.
